SCENT WORK FOR FUN
Although most of the pages on the public part of this website refer to ‘competition’ it is not the entire focus of our Club. ‘Nose games’ just for the pure joy of sniffing can benefit all dogs and their families; in fact, they can be very therapeutic.
In our classes, there is no pressure to train with a view of trialling. Many of the exercises and set ups can be replicated or modified to suit your home circumstances, and your dog can enjoy the benefits of using his nose – in a manner that works for you. Those benefits extend to mental stimulation and physical activity, as well as the intrinsic joy that dogs get from using their strongest sense – their olfactory ability.
For those who live remotely and who are unable to access classes, some video and instruction of simple games to get you started can be provided. Just use the contact form below.
There are many reasons that trialling your dog may not be appropriate and the following article from Scent Work University may provide reassurance to those who are in this situation. You should not feel disenfranchised just because trialling and competition environments are not the best fit for your dog.
