The Management Committee of the Pine Rivers DTC acknowledges the funding provided by the City of Moreton in presenting the Dog Driven Search Workshop to club members and the wider scent work community.

We would also like to thank the administrative staff of Mt Maria College for their assistance in setting up the Kolbe Sports Centre and for the use of their amazing AV equipment which was crucial in the review of videos of the working teams.

There was a total of 132 attendees over the 3 days - 56 on Saturday, 52 on Sunday and 24 on Monday.  Some attendees travelled from Adelaide (SA), Coffs Harbour and Grafton (NSW) and in Queensland from as far away as Rockhampton.  Entitled “The Dog Driven Search” workshop, it was based on a book of that name written by Sue and Dana, who have many decades of experience in Nosework/Scent Work and dog training more generally, and have presented workshops widely throughout USA and internationally.

The principal focus of the workshop was on the handler, and how handling impacts on the dog’s understanding, confidence, independence and performance.  The workshop included lecture sessions, together with practical sessions involving teams in a range of search challenges, with guidance by Sue and Dana as the search was under way and review on its conclusion.

It was a wonderful 3 days of learning, laughter and discussion with a large group of open- and like-minded people.  Dana and Sue were entertaining, informative speakers, generous in answering questions and very supportive in the feedback they provided, especially to the teams with working spots.

On Monday 14 July, the members of the Pine Rivers DTC were privileged to spend a special coaching day with Sue and Dana.
The workshop and coaching day focussed on how we influence the dog's search with our body movements: direction, pathways, speed, and body orientation.

Thank you to the 30 dog/handler teams who were willing to have their handling critiqued in front of their peers. Those of us watching on learnt so much through your experiences.  Sue and Dana were kind and generous in their coaching, giving thoughtful responses to questions and providing information in so many ways.
